A Family-friendly Shooting Range

We went to Stronghand Shooting Range to try some target shooting and to know how it feels like to be doing it. Unfortunately our little man Elijah was nursing his sumpong that day, all he wanted was to be carried by his Dad the whole time. So, Paulo was left with no choice but to just watch while I’m trying out. I love their 180 degree viewing window. Very much perfect for your companions who doesn’t have the courage to try it yet, or, in our case that day, to watch your wife while you’re outside with your little guy.

Below their logo, I saw the words “NON-TOXIC RANGE”, I wonder what do they mean by that. I asked their staff about it and she explained it was the absence of the four harmful toxins commonly found in practice shooting: air-borne lead, barium oxide, sulphur oxide, antimony oxide. Stronghand Shooting Range is also Asia’s first and only toxic free indoor shooting range, combining HEPA filter technology, turbine exhaust and non toxic components in their ammo. Greatest right? I’m relieved to know that my lungs were safe. Furthermore, I’m assured that after the target practice, my baby wont inhale harmful residue from me.

To help us all understand what it meant, I asked Wikipedia’s help. And it retrieved this:

High-efficiency particulate arrestance (HEPA), also sometimes called high-efficiency particulate arresting or high-efficiency particulate air, is a type of air filter. Filters meeting the HEPA standard have many applications, including use in medical facilities, automobiles, aircraft and homes. The filter must satisfy certain standards of efficiency such as those set by the United States Department of Energy (DOE). To qualify as HEPA by US government standards, an air filter must remove (from the air that passes through) 99.97% of particles that have a size of 0.3 micrometer.

Wow! So now, I’m the happiest that we found a place for my husband’s pastime (Yup, there are tons of things he loves to do and this thing is one of those) at the same time, it isn’t harmful to our lungs especially Elijah’s.

I learned a lot from Sir Benjie, an accredited range safety officer. He taught us how to handle and clear a pistol, the gun safety rules and especially, how to shoot a target. Best part about this was that they discouraged customers to give tips. I also liked how friendly their staffs were. I don’t know about other shooting range, but at Stronghand, I love the ‘no tips please, use that for your next practice!’ policy.

It was totally a fun experience. I love the feeling of being safe inside the teaching range. They were strict in implementing ‘no egos allowed’. Don’t point the gun at anything you don’t intend to shoot.

As a summary, Moms, I love how it can cater as a reward to our hard working husbands. I mean, Mondays to Fridays Paulo is in the office as a programmer. Saturdays we attend the anticipated mass. And Sundays, we can accompany him, Elijah and I—though this isn’t my thing, we can wait while snacking at Kiss Kiss Bang Bang coffee shop. Yes, without worrying if we will be inhaling fumes from Paulo’s clothes after practice shooting.
