Crafting Activities for all ages with Polymer Clay
Crafting Activities for all ages with Polymer Clay
As a soon-to-be officially homeschoolers, I’m constantly on a lookout for activities that we can enroll Elijah to. There are a lot out there, actually, you just have to open your eyes and explore your choices.
Inside EDSA Shangri-La Plaza was Rustan’s Supermarket where you will see the The Crafters Marketplace. We spent an afternoon there of a clay play activity with Ms. Melody Manalaysay. I wasn’t able to take a picture of the venue as my toddler was too excited to touch the clays.
My toddler was so excited for the activity that he lined up the polymer clays as soon as the materials were handed to us.
Raise your hand if you don’t know the difference of a regular clay versus a polymer clay like me. “Polymer clay is simply a plastic clay” says Ms. Melody.
I was amazed at what can you do with this polymer clays; jewelries, key chains, center table displays etc.
So ready?
Rules before handling clays:
Make sure your hands are clean.
Make sure your working table, tile, mat and clay tools are clean.
Always follow baking instruction written in the label.
SMILE is the best tool.
Teacher Melody Manalaysay
It can be intimidating for first timers like me. But hey, Ms. Melody kept on saying during the session “As long as you’re happy with your output, then it’s fine”, fueled my confidence level while kneading. Did I mention she’s one of the leading clay artists in the Philippines? What I liked most about her was she’s very generous of what she know be that tips and tricks. I’m sure everyone in that mommy bloggers’ class would agree.
Types of polymer clay that was introduced to us in that session.
For that class we used Du-kit. I noticed that the finish product has a glossy look and Teacher Melody affirmed that characteristic of this Du-kit clay.
It was fun!
Here’s our session’s finished products.
Yes, we heated the clays using an oven toaster to ‘bake’ it. The heat level depends on the brand of the clay you’re using, you can find it at the back of the clay’s packaging.
Note: Teacher Melody reminded us that everything you’ve used in creating polymer stuff should not be used to food related baking.
Tada! A keychain for Elijah.
Few steps from the Crafters Marketplace was the bounty of arts and crafts—Crafting Time (by Ms. Melody Manalaysay and her Mom)–which the above pieces of accesories and jewelries were placed.
